Mulayam Singh Yadav, KM Birla, MM Keeravaani among 106 Padma Award recipients

The Centre on Wednesday announced the recipients of the prestigious Padma Award, the highest civilian award in India, on the eve of the 74th Republic Day. The President approved the conferment of 106 Padma Awards - 6 Padma Vibhushan, 9 Padma Bhushan and 91 Padma Shri Awards.

Notable awardees include former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, who was conferred the Padma Vibhushan posthumously. He was awarded in the field of public affairs. Kumar Mangalam Birla, the chairman of the Aditya Birla Group, got the Padma Bhushan for trade and industry. 

Meanwhile, MM Keeravaani, the composer of RRR's 'Naatu Naatu' song, was conferred the Padma Shri in the field of arts.

Video | Narrow escape for woman as SUV speeds down pavement in Bengaluru

A woman escaped by a whisker after an SUV barged past other cars and sped down the sidewalk in Bengaluru’s BTM layout on Tuesday morning. Police said the incident took place around 10: 45 am when the woman was buying something at a shop by the footpath. Police said the speeding car damaged several shops, adding that no one was injured. They said the driver resolved the issue amicably by paying Rs 4,500 to the shop owners for the damage caused by the accident. No police complaint was registered as there were no injuries. However, the police took action after CCTV footage of the incident went viral on social media. They have launched a manhunt for the driver.
